Like Christmas in… oh, wait.

Historical reenactment

Yesterday I came home to one of my favorite things in the world. A package! For me! I mean, who doesn't like getting a big box of stuff in the mail? The best parts were 1) it was a box of art supplies; and 2) it was all free. Free you say? Yes, free. And here's why. Last month I was chosen as Blick's Studio Artist of the Month over there on The Facebook and when you win, you get a gift certificate to spend online, in the Blick Studio store. Which I love. It took me a couple of days to figure out how I was going to spend my loot. Should I choose something frivolous that I would never ordinarily buy for myself? Should I be practical and get things I know I'll use? In the end, I went with practical with just a dash of frivol. Two pads of Yupo Paper (I won't paint on anything else!) a tube of Winsor & Newton Lamp Black, Masque Pen and a Kolinsky brush. Can I take a minute here and just sing the praises of Kolinsky sable brushes? I love these brushes so much can never go back to synthetic or squirrel or whatever else they have out there. And here's why - they don't shed. There is nothing so annoying to me as having to pick a brush hair out of my painting. Sable brushes just don't shed. Ever. In my experience. Anyway, I'm pretty excited to turn those sheets of Yupo into 20 custom portraits with the help, of course, of the new tube of Lamp Black, masque pen and the 4/0 brush. Santa visited early this year.

  1. Wow, I just found your blog, and it is very cute. Just my style too. I think we share a lot of the same interests! I really enjoyed reading your post about the package. It was funny. I totally agree with the brush hair thing… oh my goodness! It is SO annoying!
