I can’t make this stuff up.

When I was at the MTV Movie Awards gift suite earlier this month, I was talking to someone about painting her cat.

"Can you paint him with a fedora and cigar?" she asked. "He's very sophisticated."

I assured her, "That's not the strangest request I've ever received. It's not even the strangest request I've received this week." I knew that waiting for me back home was this order for Butters the Guinea Pig and an eight ball. Now, Butters is a repeat customer; I painted him several weeks ago and his mom has subsequently ordered paintings of his brothers and sisters (coming soon!) And this one.

Butters

Completed: June 28, 2010

Soundtrack: Wicked: The Original Broadway Cast

Beverage: Pepperwood Grove Zinfandel (because, really, I dare you to paint a guinea pig and an eight ball without taking a nip)

Of course, there is a story here. There was the initial confusion when I assumed that the 8-ball was of the Magic Eight Ball variety and assumed I would be painting Butters with a little turban and big gawdy rings. But then it was explained that it was an 8 ball of the billiards variety and while Butters himself doesn't play pool, his owner does.

So it all makes perfect sense.
