The family took a long weekend vacation to Arizona. (Thanks mom and sis!) We needed it. I can’t remember the last time we took a vacation as a family, nor the last time my husband took more than one day in a row to just relax. Or me, for that matter. Let me tell you something about Arizona in September.
It’s damn hot.
We flew out of Oregon, our flight delayed twice due to fog. Awaiting us on the other end of the trip? One hundred eleven degree weather.
And luckily, a pool.
The flight was eventful, in that my 6 y.o. daughter decided that she was terrified of flying. Right when we got on the plane. She was crying hysterically and I even had to get the air sickness bag just in case. All the ballyhoo just barely distracted me from my own travel anxiety. She was fine once we were in the air, with only a small hiccup involving the snack cart. “Mom! You’re going to let me drink this?” she asked, warily eyeing the Cranberry Juice Cocktail.
I’ve accomplished quite a bit of “relaxing” these last four days…finally watched the end of “Rent,” caught up on some podcasts and breezed through Breaking Dawn so now I know what the heck everyone is talking about around the water cooler. I am halfway through The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and just bought The Hunger Games.
I’m a late adopter.
We haven’t done much more than read, sit by the pool and enjoy an appropriate amount of adult beverages. My sister has driven me around their smallish town a bit, but I keep getting lost. The joke is that you just “turn when you see the beige building with the tile roof.” The joke, if you’ve never been to Arizona, is that every building is beige with a tile roof.
So we started to come up with as many names for beige as we could think of.
- Cafe Au Lait
- Hide (my husband’s contribution)
- Sand Storm
I’ll start answering my emails again tomorrow. There’s pool floating to be done.
